Racism Directed At General Mills For Its Cheerios Ad Featuring An Interracial Couple...
The self-inflicted wound that is racism continues to work corruption of blood on its purveyors and its victims alike in these United States; and although it is the year 2013 and a Black-man is at the pinnacle of power in Washington, D.C., racism, like Herpes, lingers and manifests to let us know that it is still here and that anytime a contrary wind can come and fan it into a pandemic. There is a Cheerios commercial currently being aired nationally on television, featuring an interracial couple, which has engendered much hateful vitriol from many of our citizens. Mind you, I have seen the commercial and were you to see it, you will notice that the interracial couple does not even share any screen time, but they have a daughter that is the connection between them… parroting the health merits of eating Cheerios - yet many in America are still upset with General Mills, the owner of the Cheerios brand of cereal, for allowing an interracial couple to be part of the commercial. The question that begs itself, doesn't Black folks buy and eat Cheerios too… as a matter of fact, as I write, were I to make the journey to my kitchen around the corner from my living room, I would see a Cheerios box on top of my refrigerator.
General Mills has rightfully decided not to pull the commercial, but I bet you dollars to donuts that no more interracial couples will be featured again for Cheerios or for any other products for some time to come. There is a huge swath of America, especially Hollywood, apparently, is at ease with such racist feelings. My little sister watches a show call ‘Scandal’ whose star is a Black female, Carrie Washington, who is having an affair with the White President of the United States. I bring this show up to say that you will never see the opposite happening.
Even the rock singer John Mayer showed his racism, when he basically, crudely said that his penis is like David Duke, the Klan’s man; however, that same John Mayer was out front and center playing his guitar at Michael Jackson’s funeral out of reverence, supposedly for the dead pop star. It is also why that you will be waiting until Hell freezes over before you will see any White actresses of note having interracial relationships on screen with Black men and even the low brow shows like the Bachelorette will never have any Black suitors, and, if it did, I will bet you that there would be no intimate interaction… and, in addition, the D-list show like Dancing With The Stars, which has been on for years... has seen fit not to have any Black dance instructors, even though, supposedly, that dancing is one of our fortes - the thought of some Black-man gyrating on some white woman is just too much….
Let me underscore how some in America truly feels about Blacks… currently, there is a popular commercial being televised for Geico, featuring Maxwell, the pig. In two of those recent Geico commercials, it is more than implied that Maxwell, the pig, is having a sexual relationship with a woman - but Jesus forbid that it was with a Black-man. The lesson to be had is that it is OK for Beastiality… whereby we tacitly or expressly sanctioned a relationship between an actual pig and a White woman, but not for the wholesome Cheerios commercial featuring an interracial married couple. I must be careful not to judge us all collectively for the actions of a few - but I suspect that it is not a few because of the dearth of such relationships being portrayed in Hollywood, at least between Black men and White women.
I tell you a mystery... I went to Law school down in Ohio and the legion of interracial hookups, believe it or not between Black men and White women, I saw, should be cause for concern for those who are now protesting the Cheerios commercial – God only knows what goes on secretly on the Down Low (DL) on other campuses. I am and always will try to interject my Traditional Christianity into my blogs and the theme of this particular writing presents itself for me to do so again. Years ago, Moses' sister, Miriam, was being a racist because Moses had married an Ethiopian woman… God was so mad with Miriam that He struck her with Leprosy, ironically, those suffering from Leprosy have a color that is sickly White... and the Almighty God, Jehovah, told Moses that if he did not pray for his sister, Miriam, that the Lord was going to kill her (Numbers 12:1). I hope that you get the gist of what I am trying to convey….
